Muizenberg
is situated on the shores of False Bay on the east coast of the
Peninsula of the Western Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. The
water temperature of the Indian Ocean is a few degrees warmer
compared to the Atlantic on the west coast. For this reason the most
popular bathing resorts, some of them still exhibiting their
Victorian flair, are situated along the shores of the Indian Ocean.
Cecil Rhodes bought a summer residence in Muizenberg
in 1899. Numerous wealthy citizens followed suit by establishing
residences and creating what today is known and admired as
Millionaire's Mile. Today Cecil Rhodes' Cottage serves as a museum.
Visitors are welcome.
Besides
the famous bathing beaches the areas near Muizenberg offer numerous
possibilities in sporting activities and sight-seeing. Riding,
surfing, sailing, diving and windsurfing, to name but a few.
From Kalk Bay Harbour boats regularly take keen deep-sea fishermen
out into the open ocean. Rock climbers can attemtpt to ascend
Table
Mountain via the famous Jacobs' Ladder. Numerous
reasonably prices restaurants, often recommended by connoisseurs,
offer local and international menus.
Being centrally situated, Muizenberg is an ideal
starting point for excursions into the entire Cape Peninsula. Places
of interest like Cape Town City Centre or the
Victoria and
Alfred Waterfront, the World of Birds in Hout Bay, the Gemstone
Scratch Patch, the Penguins at Boulders Beach, various wine farms
and - not to be forgotten -
Cape Point are
